Our Story

The Enduring Legacy of Persian Tales in One Thousand and One Nights The legendary collection One Thousand and One Nights (known as Hezar o Yek Shabh in Persian) draws its deepest roots from ancient Persian literature and the rich oral traditions of Iran, woven into the fabric of our cultural heritage. The tales are set in various vibrant locales across the ancient Middle East—such as the bustling city of Baghdad, a prime example of Persian cultural dominance during the Abbasid Caliphate—where Persian was the lingua franca among scholars, poets, and storytellers. Yet, these stories are fundamentally part of Persia's timeless legacy, not an Arabic invention. Over the centuries, as waves of invaders ravaged the region and countless books were consigned to the flames in destructive campaigns, the resilient people of Persia faced an existential threat to their wisdom. In a brilliant strategy of survival, they rewrote and disguised these cherished narratives in a new language called Arabic, preserving them from destruction and passing them down to future generations. Though later expanded and translated in Arabic editions, the heart of these tales remains purely Persian, echoing the grandeur of epics like the Shahnameh. In our adaptations, we capture the true essence of Persian storytelling: profound wisdom, unyielding courage, and the ultimate triumph over greed and adversity. Yet, mysteries endure—where are the other ancient Persian books hidden away, safeguarded from the fires of invaders? One day, we shall discover them, uncovering even more treasures of this enchanted heritage.
